What is Equine 74 Gastric?
Discover the long-term solution for gastric ulcers.
Where does Equine 74 Gastric come from?
From the coast of Iceland, processed in Ireland and Germany, 100% natural.
Equine 74 Gastric is obtained from a special calcareous Marine Algae, Lithothamnion Glaciale (Maerl). This is harvested from the seabed off the coast of Iceland and then gently dried in Ireland.
The raw material is then further processed and packaged in Germany in various production steps – in other words, Made in Germany.
How is Equine 74 Gastric administered?
Daily 50 grams against the overacidification of the stomach contents.
Equine 74 Gastric is available in powder and pellet form. Depending on the horse and preference, this can be fed pure from the hand or added to the horse's crib feed.
It is also possible to mix the pellets into moist feeds such as mash or Schlonzi without losing its function. When adding powder, make sure that it is then fed directly, should it be stirred into mash for example. The reason for this is the yeast added in the powder, which would otherwise lose its effect.
Depending on the size and weight of the horse or susceptibility to stress and the associated gastric acid production, the horse receives 25–50g Equine 74 Gastric 1–2 times a day.
How does Equine 74 Gastric work?
It absorbs the excess stomach acid like a sponge.
Red algae – the natural base of Equine 74 Gastric – contain 74 different minerals, including large amounts of calcium and magnesium, which are highly bioavailable to the horse.
Due to its high calcium and magnesium content and unique sponge structure, Equine 74 Gastric has up to 2.5 times the acid buffering capacity of supplements derived from limestone and used to buffer excess acid in the horse's stomach.
This means that Equine 74 Gastric can buffer more stomach acid than conventional calcium-containing products. Equine 74 Gastric virtually absorbs the excess stomach acid like a sponge. This ensures a more balanced pH level in the horse's stomach. In addition, the feed mash does not enter the intestine over-acidified. Consequently, the intestinal flora is more and more in balance, allowing the intestinal microbes to work better. This usually leads to improved utilization of the entire feed.
Study
Scientifically proven effect
The scientists Moore*, O`Gorman and Wakefield*, (* both School of Agriculture, Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom) investigated in 2014 in a scientific study, the effect of Equine 74 Gastric (listed in study under the former trade name EquiMinPlus).
In summary, the results of the experiments of the scientific study show that the addition of a marine multimineral supplement – Equine 74 Gastric – to a range of dietary fiber (feed) has a positive buffering effect during in vitro small intestinal digestion and a slightly stimulated early fermentation rate under in vitro large intestine conditions.
Journal of Equine Veterinary Science 34 (2014) 391–397
The aim of the study was to find out whether Equine 74 Gastric can counteract acidification of the gastrointestinal tract. For this purpose, Equine 74 Gastric was added to different feed rations in the presence of pepsin HCl in in vitro experiments. Different pH values prevailed before the addition of the supplement. At 1, 2 and 4 hours after the addition of Equine 74 Gastric, the pH values were measured. It was found that the pH values were increased by Equine 74 Gastric in all cases, suggesting that the same occurs in the stomach of a horse. In addition, the influence of an addition of Equine 74 Gastric under the conditions prevailing in the intestinal tract was investigated. Here, a puffing effect on small intestinal digestion as well as a slight stimulation of large intestinal digestion could be observed.
For which horses is Equine 74 Gastric recommended?
In principle, Equine 74 Gastric can be used for any horse - from the small Shetland pony to the successful sport horse. Equine 74 Gastric is particularly suitable for horses that are susceptible to stress and therefore have an increased gastric acid production and thus often an overacidified stomach.
Equine 74 Gastric can achieve a natural, balanced environment in the stomach to make your horse feel better, so that he is again satisfied, balanced and ready to perform!
